The 7 Best Whipped Cream Dispensers for 2020

We all know that homemade whipped cream is the best. It’s sweetened to your personal level of perfection, fresh, and doesn’t contain any mysterious ingredients. But making it can be a hassle. Either you wear out your arm whipping it by hand, or you end up with splatters of cream all over your kitchen when you use an electric mixer.

Enter the whipped cream dispenser. These clever devices feature a canister that holds the cream (or your liquid of choice—more on that later!) and then uses a N20 charger to whip the cream. With next to no work on your part, you’re able to produce a beautiful topping—and in many cases, even pipe it through a shaped tip for an artistic finish.

But one of our favorite things about these devices is that you’re not limited to whipped cream. You can make other whipped or foamed toppings or fillings (think of mousse, for example), carbonate sodas (you’ll need a different kind of charger), or even make your own fancy nitro coffee. Read on to learn more about these devices, and to figure out the best whipped cream dispenser for your cooking style!

The Top 7 Whipped Cream Dispensers

#1. iSi Gourmet Whip

Best for: The ultimate siphon for hot and cold, sweet or savoury, and everything in between

It’s rare that we’re able to list one ultimate top product on one of our lists; usually the answer depends on various subjective factors. But for whipped cream dispensers, there’s a clear winner: the iSi Gourmet Whip. (In fact, this is the one I use in my own home kitchen.)

You see, most whipped cream dispensers are designed for either hot or cold liquids. The iSi Gourmet Whip is the only option on our list made to handle both! This means that whether you want a simple whipped cream or a fancy culinary espuma, you’ll be in good hands.

Another thing we love about this particular whipped cream dispenser is that it’s available in three sizes: half pint, pint, and quart. If storage space is at a premium in your kitchen and you tend to cook for just a couple of people, go for the smaller size. But if you have a more spacious home and tend to host large gatherings, you can get a larger device to match.

In short: if you can afford it, get the iSi. We wholeheartedly recommend this versatile device and believe that you’ll love it as much as we do!

Specs and Features

  • Material: Stainless steel
  • Capacity: 1 quart/1L, 1 pint/500ml, or ½ pint/250ml
  • Decorative tips included: 3 (1 stainless steel and 2 plastic)
Pros
  • The only product on the list that supports both cold and hot liquids
  • Comes with three decorating tips
  • Available in different sizes
Cons
  • Quality comes with a price to match
  • Using chargers from other brands voids the warranty and is not recommended by the manufacturer

#2. Otis Classic Whipped Cream Dispenser Pack

Best for: The complete kit

We love versatility, and avoiding single-use devices whenever possible. And that’s why the Otis Classic Whipped Cream Dispenser Pack has earned its place on our list! In addition to the standard three decorating tips that come with many whipped cream dispensers, this pack includes four injector tips. This gives you even more versatility in how you use your dispenser. Whether you want to fill cupcakes or precisely dispense mousse, your only limit is your imagination.

We’re also thrilled that the Otis is almost completely stainless steel, with the only plastic part being the decorative lid. Everything that actually comes into contact with your food is stainless steel, which is ideal. And they’ve taken aesthetics into account too. This device comes with a total of six silicone bands in different colors, so you can make sure your dispenser matches the look of your kitchen. Overall, for cold applications, we love this product!

But let’s be honest. If you’re passionate enough about food to want this model with its various tips, you’ll probably want to create warm or hot espumas or culinary foams at some point too. And when that day comes, you may wish your whipped cream dispenser were up to the task. For that reason, we’d recommend going with the iSi Gourmet Whip instead.

With that said, if you’re confident that you’ll only ever want to use it with cold applications, and you want all the versatility that these various tips offer, the Otis is a fantastic choice that we believe you won’t regret.

Specs and Features

  • Material: Stainless steel
  • Capacity: 1 pint / 500ml
  • Decorative tips included: Yes
Pros
  • Comes with 3 decorating nozzles, 4 injector tips and 6 colored silicone grips
  • Made of stainless steel for durability and safety
  • Customizable with 6 different interchangeable colors for the grip
  • Compatible with standard 8-gram N2O chargers
Cons
  • Significantly more expensive than similar items on our list

#3. Otis Classic Whipped Cream Dispenser

Best for: Great build quality

If you want a fantastic high-quality tool but can’t quite bring yourself to splurge on the whole Otis pack with the many tips and silicone bands, check out the Otis Classic Whipped Cream Dispenser instead! While it isn’t designed to work with hot liquids, this is all you’ll need if you only plan to make whipped cream or other cold applications.

With three stainless steel tips in different shapes, you’ll be able to wow your guests by decorating your desserts or drinks to perfection. Those perfectly swirled cream-topped mugs of hot chocolate from holiday movies are now achievable at home!

And just because the Otis isn’t designed for hot liquids doesn’t mean you’re stuck doing just whipped cream. Try it for mousses, cold foams, sauces, infusions, and even nitro coffee! Your only limit is your imagination—and the temperature of the liquids you can put inside.

Specs and Features

  • Material: Stainless steel
  • Capacity: 1 pint / 500ml
  • Decorative tips included: 3 (stainless steel)
Pros
  • Includes 3 decorating nozzles, storage cap, and cleaning brush
  • Stainless steel
  • Compatible with standard 8-gram N2O chargers
Cons
  • Some users struggle with the charger dispenser after a while or if used improperly

#4. EurKitchen Professional Whipped Cream Dispenser

Best for: Affordable option

We tend to love EurKitchen’s skill at making products that are both affordable and high-quality (in fact, they took top place on our list of the best crème brûlée torches!). Their whipped cream dispenser is no exception. While it’s not our absolute top pick for whipped cream dispensers, its combination of price and features earns it a strong spot on this list.

As you’ll read in more detail below, we prefer stainless steel for these dispensers since it’s more durable and better suited to acidic liquids. The basic EurKitchen dispenser is made of aluminum, which is our biggest issue with it. You can, however, upgrade to a stainless steel version—but at that point you might as well upgrade just a bit further and get the iSi instead.

If you don’t mind an aluminum build and want an affordable dispenser, though, this is a great pick. Despite its low price, it comes with more accessories than most. And you can use it for just about any cold application you can think of: whipped cream, carbonating drinks, nitro coffee, and more!

Specs and Features

  • Material: Aluminum
  • Capacity: 1 pint / 500ml
  • Decorative tips included: 3 (plastic)
Pros
  • Affordable
  • Includes mesh storage bag for accessories
  • Comes with cleaning brush, spare N2O holder, silicone seal, and decorative tips
  • Compatible with standard 8-gram N2O chargers
Cons
  • Decorative nozzles are made of plastic
  • Aluminum doesn’t last as long as stainless steel

#5. ICO Professional Whipped Cream Dispenser

Best for: Mid-range models build with good materials

If you’re very particular about exactly what you want, the ICO series of products is a great place to look. Instead of just having one or two options, they have four, so you can choose your preferred material (aluminum or stainless steel) and size (1 quart or 1 pint).

In general, we recommend stainless steel if possible! But aluminum tends to be more affordable, so that may be the better option if you’re on a tight budget. Choosing your size is more a matter of personal preference and habits. If you tend to cook for just a few people, the smaller size should be fine! But go ahead and upgrade if you tend to cook for larger groups.

We appreciate the variety of models available from this brand, which means they have something to suit anyone’s needs and budget. But we also love their emphasis on ensuring an airtight vacuum seal. This means you can refrigerate any leftover whipped cream (or other whipped substances) without worrying about leaks or spillage in your refrigerator.

Specs and Features

  • Material: Available in both aluminum and stainless steel versions
  • Capacity: Available in 1 quart/1L or 1 pint/500ml
  • Decorative tips included: Depends on model – 2 or 3, most of them plastic
Pros
  • Different models available to fit different budgets
  • Airtight vacuum seal allows whipped cream to be refrigerated for up to 14 days
  • Compatible with standard 8-gram N2O chargers
Cons
  • Decorative nozzles mostly made of plastic (except for 1 in the higher end model)
  • No cleaning brush provided

#6. ZOEMO Profesional Whipped Cream Dispenser

Size: 1 pint
Attention: Requiring cream charger (N2O) to operate, the charges are not included.

Best for: Versatility for all budgets

Like ICO, ZOEMO emphasizes versatility in their devices. Their line comes in three different sizes, each of which is different in its accessories and construction material as well:

  • 1-quart size is made of stainless steel and comes with 6 stainless steel tips
  • 1-pint size is made of aluminum and comes with 3 stainless steel tips
  • 1/2-pint size is made of aluminum and comes with 3 plastic tips

As you may have guessed, we prefer the 1-quart size from this brand for its stainless steel construction and wider range of tips. But the other options are more affordable, so it’s very much a matter of your budget and priorities. If you don’t mind an aluminum body and smaller size, one of their other two options may be a great pick for you instead!

Specs and Features

  • Material: Depends on model, largest is stainless steel and others are aluminum
  • Capacity: Depends on model. 1 quart/1L, 1 pint/500ml, or ½ pint/250ml
  • Decorative tips included: Depends on model. 6 (stainless steel), 3 (stainless steel), or 3 (plastic)
Pros
  • Available in three sizes for three different budgets
  • Models for all budgets – smaller model is the most affordable on our list
  • Larger models include decorating tips and cleaning brushes
  • All models are metal (except nozzles on the smaller model)
Cons
  • Smallest model uses plastic tips
  • E-books with recipes (supposedly included with purchase) can be tricky to obtain

#7. Pura Vida Professional Whipped Cream Dispenser

Best for: A thoughtful gift for a foodie

When you’re buying a gift, quality matters—but so does presentation! And that’s where the Pura Vida Professional Whipped Cream Dispenser really stands out. By packaging this dispenser in a gift box, Pura Vida makes it easy to give away as a standout present.

As a bonus, the affordable price means that you’ll be able to show up with a remarkable and distinctive gift that a foodie will love, even if your budget doesn’t allow for anything too extravagant. And don’t we all love gifts that make a statement without breaking the bank?

We appreciate that this dispenser doesn’t include plastic parts. Even the tips are stainless steel, which isn’t the case for some other options on our list. However, we wish that the body were stainless steel instead of aluminum. If your recipient doesn’t need to put the body in the dishwasher or use it for acidic products, though, the aluminum shouldn’t be a problem.

Specs and Features

  • Material: Aluminum
  • Capacity: 1 pint / 500ml
  • Decorative tips included: 3 (stainless steel)
Pros
  • Includes 3 decorative tips, plus a cleaning brush
  • No plastic parts
  • Comes in a gift box package
  • Soft-grip silicone for easy top removal
Cons
  • Aluminum doesn’t last as long as stainless steel

Accessories

Cream Chargers

CO2 Chargers

When you get your whipped cream dispenser, keep in mind that it doesn’t work on its own. You’ll also need chargers, which are small canisters full of either N2O or CO2 depending on what you want to make in the dispenser.

In general, you’ll use one charger for pint- and half-pint dispensers. You’ll typically need two chargers for quart-size dispensers.

These required chargers typically do not ship along with the dispenser, so you’ll need to buy them separately. Make sure you order them at the same time as your dispenser, so you’re not stuck with a device that you can’t use!

For whipped cream and similar uses (such as mousses and foams), as well as nitro coffee*, you’ll need N2O chargers.

For soda and other carbonated liquids, you’ll need CO2 chargers.

If you can, we recommend getting both N2O and CO2 chargers so that you’ll have more flexibility in what you make.

*Be aware that nitro coffee is traditionally made with N2 (nitrogen), not N2O (nitrous oxide). However, you can get a decent version using N2O chargers. You should not use N2 chargers in a canister that isn’t designed for them. If you’re determined to make proper nitro coffee using N2 instead of N2O, we recommend the iSi Nitro Brown Stainless Steel 1 Quart Charger. This device is designed to withstand the extra pressure of using N2.

iSi Combination Funnel with Sieve Insert

If you only plan to use your dispenser to make whipped cream, you probably won’t need a funnel or strainer. You can just pour the cream straight in! But if you want to make sauces or anything using a thicker liquid, this set from iSi is invaluable.

Despite being made by iSi, the funnel and sieve set is designed to be compatible with all whipped cream dispensers. The wide-mouthed funnel helps guide thicker liquids into the canister, while the sieve ensures that only the liquid gets in and any larger particles are filtered out. This helps keep your dispenser working smoothly, since these particles won’t get stuck inside!

You definitely don’t need these. You can make do with a strainer, cheesecloth, and makeshift funnel or a pouring container with a spout. But they definitely make using your dispenser easier, so we recommend going for them if you can. (Again, though, don’t bother if you’re only planning to make whipped cream!)

What Is a Whipped Cream Dispenser? And Why You Need One

If you’ve ever stood in front of the refrigerator spraying whipped cream straight from the can into your mouth (and haven’t we all?!), you already understand the value of having a whipped cream dispenser. Now imagine how great it would be to have one at home that lets you make your own whipped cream.

You’ll be able to sweeten the cream to exactly your desired level. You can add flavorings, like vanilla, mint, or rose. And you know exactly what you’re putting inside, so you definitely won’t need to worry about various additives or preservatives in your food.

But despite the name, whipped cream dispensers aren’t actually limited to whipped cream. You can use them for all sorts of things: mousses, foams, froths, nitro coffee, carbonation, soda, and more! Just be aware that you’ll need different types of chargers depending on what you want to make. (See the Accessories section, above, for more information on which charger type to use for which preparations!)

The Different Types of Dispenser

In a lot of ways, all whipped cream dispensers are pretty similar. They all feature a canister with a spout for dispensing the cream (or whatever else you made), and a spot to put in the charger of your choice. But they have some distinct differences too, and your preferences for these will help determine which is the best whipped cream dispenser for you!

Cold Only or Hot and Cold

Most dispensers are designed only to work with cold ingredients. And if all you’ll ever want to make is whipped cream (or similar preparations), this is great! After all, it’s not like you’ would want to make warm or hot whipped cream, right?

Things get more complicated, though, if you want to use your dispenser to make culinary foams or espumas. For many of these preparations, you’ll want to use a warm or hot liquid as your base. And in this case, you’ll need a dispenser capable of handling those temperatures.

If you just want to work with cold liquids, you can choose any of the dispensers on our list. However, if you want the creative flexibility of being able to use warm or hot liquids too, we recommend our top pick, the iSi Gourmet Whip. This dispenser is designed to be able to work with either hot or cold liquids, making it ideal for a wide range of uses.

Typical Dispenser vs. Nitro Dispenser

If debating the difference between N2O and N2 in making nitro coffee sounds like something with zero relevance to your life, feel free to skip this section! But if you’re a true coffee connoisseur who wants the option of making nitro coffee at home, read on.

All of the dispensers on our list are capable of making a variation on nitro coffee. Using an N2O charger (the same kind you would use for whipped cream), you infuse your cold-brewed coffee with nitrous oxide. This improves the flavor and gives the coffee a distinctive texture.

This technique using N2O chargers is a decent—but not exact—replication of nitro coffee at home. The big difference is that true nitro coffee is made with nitrogen (N2), not nitrous oxide (N2O). And, unfortunately, you definitely should not use N2 chargers in a standard whipped cream dispenser that isn’t designed for use with nitrogen (N2).

Nitrogen creates more pressure than nitrous oxide, which could be dangerous in a device not made to withstand that level of pressure.

This leaves you with basically two options. You can either:

  • Make a decent (but not exact) version of nitro coffee using N2O (nitrous oxide) chargers in your standard whipped cream dispenser, OR
  • Buy a dispenser specifically made to withstand the added pressure of using N2 (nitrogen) chargers. We recommend the iSi Nitro Brown Stainless Steel 1 Quart Charger, which is specifically designed for this purpose.

Aluminum vs. Stainless Steel

Whipped cream dispensers typically come in one of two materials: aluminum or stainless steel. (Some parts, especially decorating tips, may be plastic—but the body itself is almost always either aluminum or stainless.)

We had planned to write a pros and cons list about each material, but the simple fact is that aluminum has only one pro: it’s typically less expensive.

Stainless steel wins in every other category. It’s more dishwasher-friendly, less prone to oxidation, and works better with acidic ingredients (which can be important depending on what you tend to make).

The only reason we would recommend an aluminum dispenser over a stainless steel one is if you’re on a budget. Just be aware that you’ll most likely need to hand-wash your aluminum dispenser, and that it may not be ideal for use with acidic liquids.

Size

You’ll notice that these dispensers come in several sizes. And this isn’t a case where bigger is always better! In fact, we recommend going for a smaller size if you’re struggling to decide.

There’s a simple reason for this: you’ll typically need two chargers for quart-size dispensers. Smaller sizes, on the other hand, typically require just one charger per use. And since you need to buy chargers, needing twice as many every time you use your dispenser can be quite a waste over time.

In short: if you’ll actually use the capacity of a quart-size dispenser, go for it! But if you tend to cook for just a couple of people, save money on chargers by getting a smaller dispenser instead.

What to Look For in a Good Dispenser

We believe that a great whipped cream dispenser should be:

  • Made of stainless steel
  • Able to handle hot liquids (if you anticipate using it for that purpose)
  • An appropriate size for your cooking habits (don’t go for the largest size if you’ll never use its capacity!)

You may find that you need to sacrifice some of these traits based on budget. This is why, for example, you’ll find some aluminum dispensers on our list; we understand that the highest-quality stainless steel options may be above some people’s budget for kitchen gadgets!

If you can spring for it, our absolute top pick is the iSi Gourmet Whip. This awesome tool is available in three common sizes, and stands out on our list because it’s designed to work with both hot and cold liquids. This gives it so much extra versatility, and allows you to whip up all sorts of creative concoctions in your home kitchen.

Conclusion

Whether you’re a dessert lover who appreciates good whipped cream, or a culinary explorer who wants to open up new horizons at home, a whipped cream dispenser will serve you well. You’ll be able to top desserts or hot chocolate in style, while coming up with new concoctions to enjoy. Just keep in mind that you’ll need both the dispenser and appropriate chargers (N2O for whipped creams and mousses, and CO2 for carbonation).

While we recommend opting for stainless steel, aluminum dispensers can work well too. It’s all a matter of your priorities and budget, as well as what you plan to make. You’ll also need to keep in mind that most dispensers aren’t designed for hot liquids, so you’ll need to choose accordingly if you want to venture into warm, savory applications.
